Unravelling the knot: A Scottish wedding content creator’s journey

Meet Mel! A Scottish event and wedding content creator based in Glasgow.

With nearly a decade of experience in the marketing and content creation arena, Mel’s journey is a testament to her unwavering dedication to her craft and her innate ability to capture the essence of every moment she encounters.

Delve into her captivating story, exploring her remarkable trajectory in wedding content creation across the UK.

After studying media and communications at Queen Margaret University, my mum would ask, “What are you going to do with that degree?” and “How can you get a job working in social media?” This was back in 2015, when TikTok was probably an idea in some genius’ notepad.

I had no idea what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go, but I knew I wanted to create “stuff”. After working on the agency side writing blogs, social posts, and picking up any digital skills I could, I landed on my feet working for a corporate events company that hosted conferences and awards across the UK – this was a bit of me!

Long days and nights working with camera crews didn’t seem like fun to many of my colleagues, but I loved it! I was meeting people and creating content, what’s not to love.

Flash forward to 2023, I was a content manager, producing content for podcasts and websites. Working with high profile clients and travelling across Europe. Life was good, great in fact, but that passion for event content creation was still lingering in the background.

One day I was on TikTok and I came across wedding day content creation. “Could this be it?” I thought. Over the years, friends and family had asked for content creation favours, and I would turn up enthusiastic and ready to help, but I never thought of making a business out of it.

One thing I was certain of was my passion for working with people, celebrating all bodies, all love, and all kinds of celebrations. I knew it would require hard work, but my knack for networking and building professional relationships gave me confidence.

I decided to tap into my network first, and serendipitously, one of my favorite influencers got engaged! It felt like perfect timing, as if the universe was affirming my path. I reached out to her, and just like that, I was booked for her engagement party!

At first, I thought I would be based in Scotland but here I was flying to London to create content for one of my favourite creators – mad!

Now in 2024, I’m creating and capturing event and wedding content creation that I’m extremely proud of. Working with clients I could only dream of and helping others feel more confident on camera.

As I reflect on my journey so far, I am grateful for every step that has led me to this point. From studying Media to working in digital marketing and events, every experience has shaped me into the content creator I am today.

Moving forward, I am excited to continue telling stories through my lens, connecting with couples on one of the most important days of their lives, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Tying the knot isn’t just about saying “I do”; it’s about weaving together the threads of love, commitment, and shared dreams. And as a Scottish wedding content creator, I am honoured to be a part of that beautiful tapestry.
